Soller
The beautiful market town of Soller sits in a lush valley of orange groves, between mountains and sea, in the North West of the island.
It's a breathtaking town with an impressive collection of majestic stone townhouses built by wealthy fruit merchants more than a century ago. Take a basket and wander around the fresh produce market, or take a seat at one of the many cafes, bars and bistros around Placa Constitucio, the stunning main square, and watch the world go by.
Those with second homes here have a fine array of independent stores to explore, including delis specialising in local produce, Mallorcan cheese and wine. When they're ready to enjoy a little sea air, they need only jump on the vintage tram which trundles down to the adjacent Port de Soller.
Soller is perfect for people who like unchanged town life. But it is easy, too, to don hiking boots or climb on a bike and head for the many walking and cycling trails in the nearby mountains, perhaps pausing before doing so to savour one of the town's delicious ice creams.
